Overview
Vijay Top — The Quiet Ridge Above Sankri
Vijay Top is a viewpoint ridge at 12,000 ft above Sankri village in the Govind Wildlife Sanctuary — one of the best-kept secrets in the Kedarkantha basecamp area. While thousands of trekkers pass through Sankri each year heading for Kedarkantha, very few take the alternative trail to Vijay Top, a 12,000 ft ridge that offers an equally spectacular panorama of the Swargarohini range and Bandarpunch massif without the summit crowds. The route shares the first section with the Kedarkantha trail but branches off at the Juda Ka Talab clearing into the Supin Valley drainage.
The view
The Vijay Top ridge faces directly northwest toward the Swargarohini group — the same range that Kedarkantha summit overlooks, but from a different angle. Swargarohini I-IV (21,000+ ft) are framed without foreground obstruction. The deep Supin Valley drops away below to the north, and on clear days the entire Har Ki Dun range fills the eastern horizon. In winter the ridge carries 2-3 ft of wind-packed snow that makes for excellent snowshoeing terrain.
Season
The same window as Kedarkantha: December through March for snow, October-November for the green meadow and post-monsoon clarity. April-May sees green trails and good views but the snow has largely melted. We do not run monsoon batches.

What trekkers say
"I'd never camped in snow before. The HeyHikers team made me feel safe every single step. The summit sunrise — standing at 12,500 ft watching peaks turn gold — I cried. Not from the cold. From the beauty."

Priya Sharma
Kedarkantha, Dec 2025
"Seven lakes, each more unreal than the last. The logistics were flawless — the food at 13,000 ft was better than most restaurants I know. Our guide Farooq knew every stone on the trail. Doing Goechala with them next."

How to Reach
Sankri is the basecamp — same as Kedarkantha. Drive from Dehradun (Prince Chowk, 6:30 AM departure) via Mussoorie, Purola, and Mori — 220 km, 9–10 hours. Sankri has several guesthouses; we use two family-run properties with twin-sharing rooms, hot bucket water, and a kitchen mess. This is the same transport and basecamp arrangement as the Kedarkantha trek — consider combining both in back-to-back batches.
Safety & Security
- Acclimatize properly — never skip rest days at altitude.
- Drink at least 4 litres of water per day above 9,000 ft.
- Tell your trek leader immediately if you feel headache, nausea, or breathlessness — early AMS signs are treatable, ignored ones are not.
- Stay close to the group; do not take shortcuts off the marked trail.
- Avoid alcohol and smoking for the entire duration of the trek.
- Keep a buffer day for travel — Himalayan roads can close without notice.
- Carry travel insurance that explicitly covers high-altitude trekking and helicopter evacuation.
